The content of excel sheet are shown below in image.
Blue colour column
- Indicates the Wattage rating of appliance you are going to use, this column cells you can edit if needed. But I have added appropriate indicative values in this column so you need not change it
Light Orange colour column/cells
- Here you need to enter number of appliances that you wish to use on inverter power when main supply is OFF
- This column allows you to enter any number between 0 to 100
Green colour column/cells
- These cells have values automatically calculated from the formula, so you need not worry
- Dark Green colour with white background indicates final recommended Inverter specifications, you need to select an inverter having larger capacity than this minimum recommended capacity.
- Dark Green Colour with white text also shows Battery Ah specifications which you need to buy to get backup in hours as desired by you
You can decide how many hours you need the battery backup and automatically the calculator will change required specifications of inverter and battery.

Everyone is curious about how to calculate UPS Batteries Capacity?
So here is my extremely easy to use “Power Consumption Calculator” which will help you to know the exact total load requirements for your home or office and help you buy the best battery for inverter.
The UPS battery price depends on the power rating and hence it is extremely important to select appropriate sized battery.
Optimal battery capacity required to run home appliances during a power outage can be calculate using this simple excel sheet which is FREE to download.
Here is simple 3 stage process as shown in the excel sheet image –
1. Calculating electrical load at your home which you will use on inverter during power outage
All you have to do is simply enter number of home appliances that you intend to use during power outage.
So simply type in numbers in green cells in front of each appliance.
The excel sheet will automatically calculate total load wattage by analyzing the load requirement before you buy the best battery for inverter.
Excel sheet will Calculate total Wattage load by adding all the power ratings of all appliances, watts used, and the quantity to comprehend the need for the right UPS and inverter battery for home use or office.
2. Inverter VA selection (and calculation)
Now you need to check what is efficiency shown by your inverter manufacturer and enter inside the sheet.
Home power factor is taken 0.8, but you can change it as needed.
The total load or peak load would be displayed by multiplying 1.25 which means 25% of jerk load is considered by me,
Now fill in the backup requirements in hours (default is 2 hours)
Excel sheet have formulas which will automatically show you final VA rating for the inverter.
You need to roundup the capacity to the nearest but larger load capacity inverter in market.
3.Battery Ah calculation
Now you need to enter backup in hours.
and Battery voltage (12V or 24 V or 48V depending upon how many batteries you are planning to use)
This will automatically calculate the Ah required for the battery with inverter
This is last step and you are ready with estimated capacity of the UPS inverter battery for your home or office space.
You need to select battery capacity which is higher than this calculated figure.
