Tp link’s wireless routers are best known for their stable wireless performance & long range which is the most determining factor for your Home or Small-Business WiFi Network.
Now when you hire broadband internet connection from Broadband ISPs (Internet Service Providers) Like Hathway, ACT, Tikona, Airtel Fibrenet, MyWorld, Nextra, Siti Cable, You Broadband, Spectranet etc. you need a router with RJ-45 port which is called as Ethernet Cable port, TP link router models I have selected for comparison will work for these above ISP’s.
(Remember BSNL Broadband needs different kind of router – I have written separate guide on BSNL Broadband Router selection)
With so many models in market to choose from, I went with selecting ones which are having very good ratings, less complaints, good range record and easy to setup. Since it was for my home WiFi I went to some of my friends to see the same routers working fine, as well as checked the WiFi range they are giving.
So I shortlisted below two routers from TP Link which were suiting to my budget for comparison & final selection :
Tp link tl wr 841n Vs Tp link tl wr 740n
I have compiled simple table showing the main features such as Speed, Security, Possible Range, Data Transfer Rate and Common Features among both.
And of course at the end of this post I do have a recommendation for you 🙂
Mind it that I also do use TP Link WiFi Router at my home since last year and its working fantastic.

Both TP link Wireless Routers 841n Vs 740n are having
- Wireless data transmission speed is good for Video Streaming, Online Gaming and Internet Calling
- IP based bandwidth control allows administrators to determine how much bandwidth is allotted to each PC
- Wireless security encryption available at a push of QSS button
- WDS wireless bridge provides seamless bridging to expand your wireless network
- Seamlessly compatible with 80211b/g/n devices
Actually I bought 740N which also works good, however my cousin brother bought 841N and getting pretty good WiFi range at every corner of his house, so looking practically of need to get range in each corner of house, including the bathrooms .. I feel I should have gone for 841N !
With abundant availability of high-speed broadband connections I feel that clear Winner is Tp link tl wr 841n with High Data Transfer Speed of 300 Mbps which will be most useful while HD Video streaming, Also as said it provides WiFi at every corner of house, so you can roam around with your smartphone anywhere still getting good WiFi range. Further it has got the ability to manage and install the wireless router remotely from a mobile device will ease your setup task 🙂
Tp link tl wr 841n deserves the overall product recommendation.
One more advantage of Tp link tl wr841n router for small business is the ability to Switch-OFF WiFi only enabling you to still use of the LAN ports for your computers.
Improvements in Tp link tl 841n Upgrade (my expectations)
Inclusion of CCA Technology:
The Tp link tl wr 740n has is the Clear Channel Assessment technology which allows the wireless router to scan channels, determine which ones are being used to avoid possible channel conflicts.
This surely helps to improve the WiFi performance.
I expect TP Link to include CCA Technology in tl wr 841n in their future upgrades 🙂
Colour LED Display:
Also one more thing I don’t like for TP Link models is same color display LED’s for all functions ! I think clear distinction like i-Ball routers with Blue color LED for WiFi, Red for Internet etc gives you idea of status from a distance [Being located in top corners normally in homes]
